Welcome to Deeply Formed
Jared Wass
Being in a ministry setting for over 20 years—mentoring individuals and couples, leading groups and developing leaders—I experienced measures of grace, both in my life and that of others. However, I also had a strong sense that there was something more.
Despite knowledge and experience, I was stuck in patterns of anxiety, fear and shame and eventually hit a wall. Longing for more freedom in Christ and spiritual fruit, I came to realize that I needed to connect more deeply with God and his love for me. I wanted to be a healthier follower of Jesus. I needed to be more deeply formed.
Deeply Formed is a venture that comes out of my own work of healing, growth and change. At the heart of it is coming alongside people to help them on their own journey of formation. To hold space for others to process life and encounter the divine love that reorders our disordered lives.
Deeply Formed is built on three key priorities …
Holistic
Human beings are beautifully complex. As James KA Smith has said, we are more than brains on a stick. We are rational, emotional, physical, spiritual and social beings. Fruitful formation brings the whole self, all that God has made us to be, into our relationship with Him and our growth in grace (Mark 12:30).
Relational
God is triune and relational in his very essence. Created in his image, we are also relational in our very essence. Personal relationships are a vital context for spiritual formation. By entering into the overflow of love between the Trinity, we can enter into formative loving relationships with others.
Experiential
We learn through reading, writing and verbal instruction, but also through imagery and experience. Jesus preached, but he also formed people through everyday life interaction (Mark 3:14) and imagery to capture the imagination for truth to penetrate deeply (John 13:3-15). Encountering Jesus is a whole-life endeavor that utilizes the physical world he’s given us through which to know him.
Conviction. Confession. Inspiration.
